They say there is a woman behind every successful man but Hema Malini would definitely like to add to that. For the actress, behind every successful woman is her mother. Everybody knows about the formidable force that was Jaya Chakravarti, who single-handedly engineered the creation of the 'Dream Girl'. As mark of tribute to her mother, the actress has been organizing this cultural dance programme called 'Jaya Smriti', on her mother's death anniversary for the last three years. This year's event took place on Saturday and was kicked off by Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh. The event was attended by actress Rani Mukherjee, who was the guest of honour, along with musician Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma.
Hema and her daughters, Esha and Ahana, organized this dance programme, which included three different dances of India, Odissi, Manipuri and Bharatnatyam. The dances were performed by young talents, who have been nutured by the Dream Girl herself. The Chief Minister was so impressed by the performances and Hema's efforts to nurture them, that he promised her space to open a dance academy in Mumbai. The programme is an attempt by Hema to fulfill her mother's dreams. Jaya Chakravarti not only encouraged Hema to enter the film industry, but also promoted many other young talents as well. She produced some superhit films like Dream Girl, Swami, among many others. Jaya Chakravarthi, a classical dancer as well had always dreamt of having her own cultural dance academy so that she could encourage people to take to classical forms of dance. Hema aims to keep her mother's memory alive by organizing this programme every year, for as long as she can.
