Two young actors made their debut this week. While both are very talented actors and have already bagged other films, their debut ventures did not have the same story to tell. While Imran Khan's Jaane Tu.. Ya Jaane Na had a terrific opening at the the box office, it was not so hunk dory for Harman Baweja's Love Story 2050. So despite the Bawejas going all out to promote the film and Harman, a certain Aamir Khan seems to have made a great difference to Jaane Tu's success, in the manner in which he marketed his nephew's launch.
While the hype was there for both films, the opening of Jaane Tu.. Ya Jaane Na was at an impressive 70 to 80 per cent and have only kept rising not just in Mumbai but elsewhere as well. As for Love Story 2050, it opened with 25 to 30 per cent collections and its collections are unlikely to improve. So Abbas Tyrewala's Jaane Tu, made on a budget of Rs 8 crores is a winner, while the Rs 30 crore, Love Story 2050 is not really going to make much money for its distributors. Yash Raj's Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic has been dipping while Via Darjeeling and Thodi Life Thoda Magic are on their way to oblivion. Next week, will see the release of Afzal Khan's Mehbooba, starring Sanjay Dutt, Ajay Devgan and Manisha Koirala and Mukhbir.
