London, July 17 (IANS) Sir Paul McCartney is set to give a historic performance in Israel where the Beatles were banned more than 40 years ago.

Thesun.co.uk reports that McCartney is about to sign a deal to play to around 250,000 fans in Tel Aviv in September. His advisers are trying to work out security plans.

A source said: 'McCartney is desperate to put Israel on the map of places he's performed.'

Israel had banned the Beatles in 1965 because they were deemed a danger to public morals. But the country has since formally apologised.
