Actors have never been satisfied with just acting. They have always loved to dabble sometimes successfully, and sometimes, not so, with playback singing. Amitabh Bachchan is one example of an actor who has managed to sing that odd song or two and do it very well indeed. But these days, there is an altogether new band of Bollywood boys who are out to try their hand at playback singing.
Some of these newest singers are actors like Akshay Kumar, Neil Nitin Mukesh, John Abraham and Farhan Akhtar. Akshay will be seen singing along with Snoop Dogg in his forthcoming magnum opus Singh Is Kinng. Even though the actor admits that he is not very good at it, he professes to enjoy the act of singing. But for Neil, it's all in the family. His grandfather and his father were singers and Neil. And so it comes as no surprise that he is singing a song in his film Freeze. In fact, the news is that he may as well be composing the tune too for the number. Farhan Akhatar always wanted to be a rock star. So his role in the film Rock On is actually giving him an opportunity to fulfill his dream He will be making his acting and singing debut in the film, for which he has recorded four songs. And we already know about John singing a number for his film Ashayein. He even sang at a promotion event for the film recently. Sanjay Dutt who has sung before he even sang in a private album with Asha Bhonsle is reportedly ready to sing all over again. Another actor who has done a fairly good job of singing is Abhishek Bachchan, who sung a number in Bluffmaster, will be doing it again in Karan Johar's Dostana where he will be singing along with Wyclef Jean. And even Anupam Kher is taking to rapping. The actor will be recording a song soon for his latest film, Mr Bhatti On Chhutti. With all the actors deciding to sing their songs, maybe it's time our singers start thinking of an alternative career as well. May be acting?
