This week saw the release of the much awaited Kismat Konnection directed by Aziz Mirza and starring Shahid Kapur and Vidya Balan. The film received an encouraging response from the box office. The film is believed to have reached the multiplexes late because of a tussle between the film's distributor UTV and the multiplexes. So the collections at the single theatres were higher than those at the multiplexes. Though the film had an initial opening of only 30 to 40 per cent at multiplexes, at single theatres, it opened at 50 to 60 per cent, all which picked up by the weekend. Trends indicate that the film, though not a hit, would definitely do more average business.

But the week's second release, Ram Gopal Varma's Contract did dismal business, opening with collections of only 10 to 15 per cent. This is the third in the director's series on the underworld, after Satya and Company and it found few takers at the box office. Last week's release, Afzal Khan's Mehbooba, did not have a very encouraging run at the box office and is now almost on its way out. Also on its way out is Harry Baweja's Love Story 2050, the launch vehicle for his son Harman Baweja. But the film which is continuing to do well is Abbas Tyrewala's Jaane Tu..Ya Jaane Na. Next week, will see the release of two films, Apoorva Lakhia's Mission Istanbul and Kumar Mangat's Money Hai Toh Honey Hai.
