UTV is going ahead with its plans of making a biopic on the legendary Kishore Kumar. They have even got his wife's permission to do so. The film will apparently be directed by Shoojit Sircar.
The script of the film is yet to be written. Rensil D'Silva of Rang De Basanti fame will be writing it. The singer's family, which consists of his widow, Leena Chandravakar and sons Amit and Sumeet Kumar. The film is being planned on a grand scale by UTV. In fact, the story rights have been sold by the family to UTV for Rs 5 crore. It is a partnership deal where they will share the profits along with the producer. Kishore Kumar, for all his eccentrities, managed to keep his personal life private. The film intends on focus on this area of the singer's life. Everybody knows about his four marriages and his eccentricity, but the man behind the mask is what the film will like to reveal. Incidentally, today is this singer's 80th birth anniversary. Initially Percept was to produce the film with Nagesh Kukunoor to direct it. But that plan has been shelved even though Kukunoor took part in a reality show on television called K For Kishore, where Kishore clones competed amongst themselves in singing. Besides the prize money, the winner of the show was to do playback for the biopic. Guess Kukunoor is busy with other things, foremost being the release of his next film, Aashayein, starring John Abraham.
