A director is essentially guided by current issues and situations, noted Israeli filmmaker Dan Wolman said in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday while participating in a face-to-face programme organised in connection with the 13th Trivandrum International Film Festival (TIFF) being held by the Chalachitra Film Society.
Israels political issue, our relationship with the Palestinians and with our other Arab neighbouring countries is a major factor in the life of every Israeli. It is the main subject of many Israeli films. When I make a film, this Israel-Palestine conflict is very much in my mind, he said.
Many of my creations have upheld the principle of universal harmony. However, I am not interested in propaganda cinema. Many of my creations were based on painful childhood experiences. he added.
The Retrospective section at the festival features eight films by Dan Wolman: Foreign Sister, Baby Love, The Distance, Floch, My Michael, Bens Biography and Spoken with Love. His Tied Hands was also screened at the inaugural show.
Wolman also said that good cinema may not have a wide viewership. He expressed his happiness to be in Kerala where good cinema is appreciated.
