A stuntman was injured in a freak accident during the filming of Krishnaleelai, the Jeeva starrer. Stuntman Sulaiman was seriously pierced in his abdomen with shards of glass as long as 15 cm, but luckily, he was admitted to a nearby hospital in time and doctors saved his life by performing an operation.
Produced by Kavithalaya and directed by Selvan, Krishnaleelai is a film with smart and fast screenplay starring Jeevan in the lead. Its filming had been going on for the past four days in a set resembling an office erected in AVM Studios. The mishap occured in a scene where stuntman Sulaiman was required to break through a glass door after being kicked by the hero. Sulaiman managed to break through the strong glass door, but unfortunately, while landing, a few shards of glass pierced his abdomen and hands; Sulaiman is an expert in this kind of stunt and had performed such stunts successfully several times already.
The film crew responded quickly, got him admitted to a hospital nearby and saved his life. Now, Sulaiman is out of danger but will be out of action for months and will have to endure excruciating pain for more than two weeks.
The life of stuntmen like Sulaiman is very perilous and pathetic. Some are pushed by abject poverty to join film stunt units; others become stuntmen for the love of adventure and thrill. These unsung heroes have the guts to risk their lives for film scenes, whose effect is only ephemeral and for which very little credit goes to them.
Hats off to the spirit of these brave men!
