Imagine taking an actor of the caliber of Akshay Kumar heads on? And that too for a film like SINGH IS KINNG which is undoubtedly the hottest movie of the year so far?Well, this is what GOOD LUCK is doing as it releases day after tomorrow on the same day as SINGH IS KINNG. Delayed by quite a few months, GOOD LUCK saw an escalation in its publicity early last month before it decided to pull out and release on a later date due to July being a heavy month for movies.
However, it is definitely not going to be a smooth journey for this Aryeman-Sayali Bhagat starrer flick which is apparently a remake of Hollywood flick JUST MY LUCK. The promos have looked tacky, the songs have just not seen any popularity coming its way while the star cast is hardly the kind which could entice audience into the theaters.
Though the film may not have met with a great response even if it would have arrived solo, the final nail in the coffin is huge competition in the form of SINGH IS KINNG which is seeing a huge theatrical release all over. Worse, GOOD LUCK is not even expected to get a good chain of theaters and show timings due to exhibitors keeping their eyes locked on SINGH IS KINNG.
Will a spillover crowd from SINGH IS KINNG help GOOD LUCK? Doesn't look like since in the age of multiplexes with a show after every 30 minutes, patrons would rather wait to catch the best. Will the next week be any better? Certainly not with BACHNA AE HASEENO and GOD TUSSI GREAT HO being in the competition enough.
Now if this can't be termed as a suicide, how else would one explain the arrival of GOOD LUCK at theaters this Friday? Now all the film needs for itself is, what else, but some 'good luck'!
