After nearly five years of continuous struggle to keep his position in Malayalam films, Jayaram has finally reached a much-needed victory with his latest Veruthe Oru Bharya, directed by Akku Akbar. After Manassinakkere (2003), Jayaram enacts a solid workable character in this film, which is running with good responses from audiences right from its initial days. Talking about the success of this film with actress Gopika, Jayaram said it is the subject that has clicked. There was a time when film-makers in other languages used to be jealous about Malayalam films because the subjects were simply excellent. And I am an actor who has been loved by the audience for the family-oriented films I did. Veruthe Oru Bhaarya too is one such subject and thankfully, it has been accepted by the audience, he added. The film is about a couple Sugunan (Jayaram) and his wife Bindu (Gopika) and their daughter Anju (Nivedita). Sugunan is a typical egoistic person, the ever-complaining husband who considers Bindu as just a person who is obliged to meet all the pressures in managing home affairs. He is never really bothered about the efforts put in by his wife to maintain the home. After putting up with her husband for a long time, Bindu reaches her breaking point and declares that she is taking voluntary retirement from being a housewife. And I am so happy that youngsters have loved the movie. After the film's release at Kozhikode, I got calls saying they even stood up and clapped for me, said an excited Jayaram. I firmly believe that I have not done any bad films. They did not do well because of many reasons. In some cases, the films were not marketed properly. Also, some good stories were not made properly. And I did certain films because I could not say no, he said. Jayaram sounded very happy about a slew of projects in Tamil. One is Goa, which marks the entry of Warner Brothers in Tamil films. He will soon be seen in movies like Venkat Prabhu's Saroja and Kadalikka Neramillai to be directed by Selvabharathy. In Malayalam, he will be part of Sathyan Anthikkad's next project.
