The box office is seeing a spate of movies over the last couple of weeks. The last week saw some four movies making their debut at the box office, all with varying results, of course. There was Vijayta Films' Chamku, Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani's Rock On, Ekta Kapoor's C Kkompany and Mukhbiir.
Vijayta Films are celebrating their silver jubilee this year, and their film, Chamku, proved to have a disappointing opening at the box office. This Bobby Deol-Priyanka Chopra starrer was the proverbial damp squib. However, making up for it was Rock On, directed by debutant Abhishek Kapoor. The film which stars Farhan, Arjun Rampal, Luke Kenny and Purab Kohli, had a wonderful opening at all multiplexes, touching 70 per cent in most places. But it did not fare so well at single-theatre venues. This is definitely a decent debut by Anil Ambani and his production house.Rock On is expected to maintain its hold at the box office during the week as well. Ekta's C Kkompany failed to tickle the finny bone of the public. At the box office, this film could manage only 30 per cent opening. As for Mukhbiir, it proved to be a dud. Of last week's lot, Phoonk seems to be faring quite decently. Maan Gaye Mughall-e-eAzam is a flop show as was My Friend Ganesha 2. Nishikant Kamath's Mumbai Meri Jaan, however, has received a lot of critical acclaim. The word-of-mouth publicity is helping the film in its second week in Mumbai. It hasn't fared so well in other cities. Next week, the box office will see three releases, UTV's A Wednesday, which will see Naseeruddin Shah and Anupam Kher coming together; Kunal Shivdasani's Hijack starring Shiney Ahuja and Esha Deol and Tahaan.
