There are some actors and actresses who refuse to read the writing on the wall when they began their careers. But it is heartening to see an actress like Preity Zinta, who has managed to evolve with time. She continues to be bubbly and vivacious. But she has managed to change her image in films, which has been reflecting in her choice of roles in recent times.
Just recently, the actress surprised all with her serious, sari clad avataar in Rituparno Ghosh's The Last Lear. The film has received rave reviews at most of the international film festivals. Her performance too has been appreciated. Besides The Last Lear, the actress has a few more hatke films lined up for release. The films which will be revealing this new change or evolution is her screen persona are Deepa Mehta's Heaven On Earth, Samir Karnik's Heroes and Jhanu Barua's Har Pal. In Mehta's film, which is about domestic violence, she portrays the role of a battered wife. In Heroes, where she is cast opposite Salman Khan, she plays a rural Punjabi woman of substance. Not much is known about her role in Har Pal, but this much is sure, the actress is finally getting roles where she needs to perform and not just flash her dimples. The bubbly, dimple flashing, talkative girl has been done to death in films. Now it's the turn of Preity the actress to emerge. Good show, we say. Finally, the actress seems to be out of Yash Raj and Karan Johar mould and is ready to do something different. Unlike her colleague and one time friend Rani Mukherjee, whose career seems to have come to a standstill because of her unwillingness to move out of the Yash Raj ambit.
