The dismal showing of Drona at the box office has sent shivers down the back of producers Eros International. The corporate house is now having second thoughts about its next fantasy venture, Aladdin.
The film which is directed by Sujoy Ghosh, stars Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt and Ritesh Deshmukh. The release date had earlier been announced as December 24. But that was before the debacle of Drona, directed by Goldie Behl. Incidentally, Drona is a part of a long line of flops by Eros like No Smoking, Sunday, Money Hai Toh Honey Hai. Hence they need a hit very desperately as well. Having spent a lot of money on Aladdin as well, they would like nothing better than for the film to be a solo release. But that depends on Aamir Khan. The actor's Ghajini is slated to release on December 24 as well. It is expected that Aamir may postpone the release date of his film as he is expected to be busy promoting Taare Zameen Par for the Oscars. The producers of Aladdin would like nothing better than that. Since the film has already gone over budget, they would like nothing but a clear week with no competition in sight. If not, the film may as well get postponed to next year. Having burned their fingers, Eros needs a hit.
