Diwali is a time when the Hindi film world also tightens its loins and tries to release as big films as possible to make the moolah, as this is the time when one tends to splurge in sync with the sentiments of the times. Possibly with this belief, EMI, the first film after release of Sanjay Dutt from the jail was timed for release. Produced by Sunil Shetty and Ekta Kapoor EMI has however been postponed for a further date.

Has it got something to do with the present times in the market? With the markets in the doldrums and the element of positive sentiments associated with the market gone for a toss, EMI which is a comment on the credit based life style of the Indians of the present times seems to have been postponed keeping in view the element of happiness associated with the most important festival in the country, and the element of negativity associated with an EMI.

It is rather an interesting quirk that whenever Sanjay Dutt has returned from his hibernations, he has been associated with a film where he played the role of a Bhai. It was JAAN KI BAAZI when he had returned from his drug rehabilitation, after that it was KHALNAYAK when he was released from his association with Bombay blasts, and now the release of EMI, when he has got a new lease of life after being released on bail.

Each of the earlier innings have been a trail blazer for Sanjay Dutt and can EMI do the same magic is the million dollar question? The trend of his earlier successes has been halted with a lukewarm response to KIDNAP, but it could be owing to the fact that the audience has not been able to accept him in a sophisticated role, and relish him more as a Bhai, even though he might be a benevolent one. The nature of content seems to be promising, as it is probably for the first time that the menace that an EMI has the potential to cause in the life of an urban individual is being portrayed in a vivid detail and who else but a Sanjay Dutt in the form of a recovery agent.

It would be a testing time for Balaji films as its longest running epic that created new benchmarks in the history of television operas anywhere in the world; KYUNKI SAAS BHI KABHIE BAHU THI is coming to an end in a rather abrupt manner.
