The Diwali week finally came with some good news from the box office. Both the films, Fashion and Golmaal Returns, released during the festive week have actually fared very well at the box office. Hence, the move to release the films two days in advance, seems to have paid off.
The sequel to Golmaal, Golmaal Returns, had quite a fantastic opening and did very well indeed during this five day holiday period, with collections ranging between 80 and 90 per cent, all over India. As for Madhur Bhandarkar's Fashion, it too seems to have recovered most of its money for its makers, or will do so very soon. The collections of this film weren't like Golmaal Returns, but it still fared averagely in the single theatres, but made up for it with its showing in multiplexes. The film has raked in 70 to 80 per cent collections specially from Mumbai, Delhi and other big cities. There has, however, been a drop in collections post the three days of Diwali. Fashion has not fared so well in smaller towns. Among last week's releases, Samir Karnik's Heroes only managed a good opening in the northern territory. But even there, its prospects dipped following the releases of Golmaaal Returns and Fashion two days before Friday. Jugal Hansraj's Roadside Romeo is faring decently only in Mumbai. But on the whole, it has not been met with open arms by the box office. Next week, will see the release of two films, EMI and Ek Vivaah …Aisa Bhi. The former is directed by debutant Saurav Kabra and stars Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal and Urmila Matondkar. The second film comes from the Rajshree banner and is also directed by a debutant Kaushik Ghatak, a protégé of Sooraj Barjatya.
