The box office this week saw the release of two films, EMI and EK Vivaah.. Aisa Bhi, both made by debutant directors, Saurabh Kabra and Kaushik Ghatak. However, non of the two directors could make much of an impact with their creative ventures.
EMI had a very dull opening, specially at the multiplexes, where its collections were as low as 15 to 20 per cent. It fared slightly better at the single screen theatres. But it is not expected to pick up business. Rajshri Productions' EK Vivaah… Aisa Bhi too suffered the same fate. The production house's obsession with weddings has not paid off at the box office and the film has fared quite dismally. Also one feels that the lack of promotions in this day and age are just hardly practical. With Vivaah not getting the right kind of push and marketing, it has not been able to capitalize on the fairly decent opening that it received. Talking of last week's releases, Golmaal Returns collections dipped following the weekend but it continues to do very well at single screen theatres, where it is doing brisk business. Madhur Bhandarkar's Fashion is faring strongly in the metros, specially in Mumbai multiplexes. But even its collections have dipped after the Diwali weekend. Next week at the box office, there is the double treat led by Dharma Productions' Dostana, directed by debutant Tarun Mansukhani and Vinay Pathak's Dasvidaniya: The Best Goodbye Ever, directed by Shahshant Shah.
