The wait is almost over. In another few days, Aditya Chopra's Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi will hit the theatres, bringing to end almost a year long wait for a Shah Ruk Khan release.
It was last year in Diwali that Om Shanti Om, directed by Farah Khan weaved its magic over cinegoers. Since then, SRK has not been seen in any film. There were a couple of projects that he was supposed to do, which however, fell apart. Hence, now it is with good friend Aditya Chopra's Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi that he will be looking to repeat, nay even better, the success that his last film achieved. There is quite a bit riding on this film for the Yash Raj banner, which has been experiencing a drought of sorts for a while. Most of their recent releases have flopped miserably at the box office. Even their recent Bachna Ae Haseeno, which fared fairly well at the box office, could not replicate the success of Chak De India, their last big hit. To cut a story short, the banner desperately needs a hit and so they have turned to their two trump cards, SRK and the reclusive genius Aditya Chopra, to deliver the goods for them. Aditya, the scion of the banner, makes a comeback to direction after a period of almost nine years. If circumstances were different, one is sure that the banner, along with SRK, would have gone all out to promote their film. But the times being what they are, fraught with anger and anxiety, they can hardly go the whole hog. The times call for restrain and the banner has rightly gone with the prevailing mood of the country. But one is sure that they will be thinking, just like everybody else, that if SRK cannot get the public out of their houses into the cinemas, then nobody can. That may seem a bit premature, but the coming weekend will bear that out, or not.
