The audience continued to stay away from cinema theatres even this week, which saw five releases Dil Kabaddi, Maharathi, Meerabai Not Out, Oh God And Gumnaam, all of which were directed by first timers except for Maharathi.
The box office response to all these five films continues to be dismal, with the much touted Dil Kabaddi managing just about 15 to 25 per cent collections. The same fate was reserved for Maharathi, which is an adaptation of a Gujarati play and featured big actors like Naseeruddin Shah, Om Puri, Boman Irani and Paresh Rawal himself. There was an even worse fate awaiting Chandrakant Kulkarni's Meeraabi Not Out starring Mandira Bedi. Saurabh Srivastava's Oh My God! And Neeraj Pathak's Gumnaam too could hardly justify their existence at the box office. The previous week's Oye Lucky Lucky Oye directed by Dibakar Banerjee has seen a rise in collections over last week, specially in the northern territory and Mumbai. The collections are expected to get better, while Onir Sorry Bhai has proved to be a lame duck at the box office.
