Well it seems that Shah Rukh Khan and Aditya Chopra were able to lure audiences back into the theatres. Following 27/11, ticket sales had sunk to an all time low and most films released during this period, was greeted by nearempty halls. But this week's release seems to have solved this problem.
Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi cannot exactly be called the hit of the year, but it definitely had a heartening opening. It opened to collections of 50 to 60 per cent on Friday, gradually picking up and touching the 70 to 80 per cent mark by Sunday. So yes, it will recover its cost. And yes, it has managed to break the ice and get the audiences back. The film is doing very well in the metros and in the northern territory. SRK has a great overseas market and the film is reported to be doing quite well in places like the UK and the Middle East as well. It is expected to sustain its collections through the week and will definitely end the year as a hit. But a Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge it is not. All of last week's releases, Maharathi, Dil Kabaddi, Meerabai Not Out and Oh, My God! have done miserably. Next week should also be smooth sailing for Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi as there is no competition in sight. The only scheduled release is that of Wafaa, directed by Rakesh Sawant and starring Rajesh Khanna. SRK can breathe safely till December 25 when he comes up against Aamir Khan in Ghajini. Till then, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi has a field day.
