With the release of the film just a week away, the makers of Ghajini are now fighting off reports that the film is inspired by the Hollywood classic Memento.
The film's producer Madhu Varma has denied that Ghajini is at all based on the Hollywood film. The reports are that the two films are quite similar. Like in Aamir in Ghajini, the protagonist in Memento, Guy Pearce, also sported tattoos on his body. In the Hollywood version, Pearce plays an insurance investigator, who is on the hunt for the man, who, he believes raped and killed is wife. Like Aamir in Ghajini, Pearce too suffers from the same medical condition, of short term amnesia, where the brain in unable to restore new memories, hence the need for tattoos on the body to remember events and numbers. According to reports, Verma is believed to said that besides the protagonists in both films suffering from the same medical condition, everything else about the two movies is absolutely different. But the buzz would have it otherwise. According to sources, however, Ghajini is indeed based on the 2000 Hollywood psychological thriller.
