This week saw the Aamir Khan magic do its work at the box office. His all out promotion and marketing of Ghajini ensured that the film had a tremendous opening.
Ghajini has now broken records everywhere after notching the highest opening collections ever. The film opened last Wednesday, with paid previews all over Mumbai, most of which were house full. As the film opened on Christmas Day, it had a long extended weekend in which to rake in the moolah, which it is reported to have done. The collections on Thursday were reported to be around 90 per cent. But the collections did dip slightly on Friday, but picked up furiously enough over Saturday and Sunday. But the Mumbai scene was not replicated in the rest of the country. The film has not done so superlatively in the rest of the country. It still remains to be seen if the film can recover the phenomenal cost that it was sold for. The other release of this week, Jumbo, the animation film which has been so extensively promoted by Akshay Kumar, was a disappointment. Meanwhile, the collections for Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi continue to be on the higher side. This film had a very decent opening and it is maintaining its form at the box office. Quite steady.
