The year has begun on a very slow note with no releases slated for the first week of the year. The second week saw three films releasing, two of which did dismal business. Rohan Sippy's decision to defer the release of his The President Is Coming proved from December to this week proved to be beneficial for the movie.
The President Is Coming is the only one of the three releases the other two being Bad Luck Govind and Kasshh…Mere Hote which managed to make some sort of an impact at the box office. The President is Coming did fairly decent business at the multiplexes in Mumbai, but not so well in other cities. But that was much better than the fate of the other two releases which proved to be duds. Both Kashh… Mere Hote and Bad Luck Govind could only manage collections ranging between five and ten per cent at the box office. Of the films which are continuing to do well at the box office, AR Murugadoss' Ghajini topped the list. It continues to maintain its lead at the box office in the second week of the new year as well. Nikhil Advani's Chandni Chowk To China is set to release next week after holding premieres all over the world. It remains to be seen if Akshay Kumar can match Aamir Khan's show at the box office.
