The Platinum Jubilee celebrations for Tamil Cinema have just become bigger than ever!
There has been immense pressure from promoters, sponsors and others to transform this to a global festival, upgrading it from just a weak one week show in Singapore and San Francisco. Therefor, Radaan Mediaworks (I) Ltd. and Galatta Global Events have now decided to celebrate the completion of '75 years of Tamil Cinema' in a festival lasting six months, starting on August 6th in Singapore, moving to USA in November and culminating in India for Pongal 2008 after completing shows in Europe and the Middle East.
The tentative agenda would be:
August 6th - Inauguration of the Global 75 years Tamil Cinema Festival, Singapore
September - Mega Musical Nite in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
October - Tribute to 75 years of Tamil Cinema show, Singapore November - Tribute to 75 years of Tamil Cinema show, San Francisco
December - Tribute to 75 years of Tamil Cinema show, London and Dubai
January - Tribute to 75 years of Tamil Cinema show, Chennai, India
During the festival, we plan to honour many producers, directors and technicians since its not only the artistes who have made the 75 years possible and without all the people involved in the past 75 years, the festival will be incomplete.
Films from the last 75 years will be screened every week in different parts of the world, creating a worldwide tribute to Tamil Cinema.
'Patti Manrams', debating the effects of cinema will be held between artistes and professional speakers to throw light on the effects of Tamil cinema on society and the world at large.
Fashion shows and dinners with celebrities, forming part of the celebrations, would be held in each of the countries selected for the festival.
For the Tribute shows, we are creating an ultimate show in the form and style of a Broadway musical, showcasing the growth of the Tamil film industry from its humble beginnings. This show will have many artistes of today dedicating the growth of the industry to legends as MGR, Sivaji Ganesan, A.V. Meiyappan Chettiar, S.S. Vasan, Bhim Singh, K. Balachander and other stalwarts in the form of a musical, scripted and enacted specially for the festival.
In all, the Platinum Jubilee is being celebrated with much more pomp and fanfare than originally envisaged, bringing together people from all fields of Tamil cinema.
We welcome you, the world audience, to join us in these special landmark celebrations as you have been responsible for the success and growth of the industry.
