Hrithik Roshan and Priyanka Chopra were judged the best in their respective categories at the annual Star Screen awards function held last night, the precursor to a long list of award functions which will follow through the year.
Hrithik Roshan won the award for best actor for his immaculate yet passionate performance as Emperor Akbar in Ashutosh Gowariker's magnum opus Jodhaa Akbar. The film was declared the Best Film and also won Gowariker the award for best director jointly with Neeraj Pandey for A Wednesday. AR Rahman bagged the music composer award for the film while Aishwariya Rai Bachchan won the best popular actress award for her role as Jodhaa in the movie. The best actress award went to Priyanka Chopra for Madhur Bhandarkar's Fashion. Jodhaa Akbar swept through most of the major awards, followed by Abhishek Kapoor's Rock On! which won the awards for best male and female supporting actors for Arjun Rampal and Shahana Goswami. Director Farhan Akhtar won the award for the most promising newcomer male for his role in Rock On!, while Asin won the most promising newcomer female for Ghajini. Rock On! also won awards for best editing, art direction and cinematography. Race, the other hit of last year, won the award for best actor in a negative role, which went to Akshaye Khanna, while Tusshar Kapoor took the award for best actor in a comic role for Golmaal Returns. Abbas-Mustan's Race also won the award for the best screenplay for Shiraz Ahmed. The best story award went to Pandey for A Wednesday. Yash Raj's Bachna Ae Haseeno swept the music awards with KK getting the best male playback for the number 'Khuda Jaane' and Shilpa getting the best female playback singer for the same number. Lyricist Anvita Dutt Guptan won the award for best lyrics for the same song. Akshay Kumar bagged the best popular actor award for Singh Is Kinng. The best animation film went to Roadside Romeo. Actor Sanjay Khan won the Lifetime Achievement Award, while the special Ramnath Goenka Award went to A Wednesday. The awards went quite as one guessed with films like Jodhaa Akbar, A Wednesday and Rock On! Justifiably bagging most of the honours.
