What are Bollywood film awards functions without a little bit of drama? Generally, our stars manage to keep their differences with each other hidden, but perhaps this was like the last straw on the camel's back. We are talking of the Screen Awards function night, where director Ashutosh Gowariker and host Sajid Khan had a war of words on stage.

Humour or rather the Bollywood style of humour seems to have suddenly become the in thing at filmi award functions in our country. In our attempt to ape the Oscars etc, our hosts have deemed it appropriate to take potshots at one and all in the film fraternity and it has not been going down well with the victims of such jokes. Perhaps Indians are good at taking jokes at themselves or perhaps the jokes are too below the belt kind, which has put off the victims in general. There was a lot of storm raised over Shah Rukh Khan and Saif Ali Khan's hosting of an awards function last year. The duo had made quite a few people angry with their jokes. And now Sajid and sister Farah Khan have done it. The brother sister duo has earned the ire of quite a few directors who find all this joking quite in bad taste. At the recent Screen awards, Gowariker decided to give it straight to Sajid, right on the stage itself and is believed to have asked him to shut up. It is also reported that quite a few directors, like Raj Kumar Hirani, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Gowariker himself, along with UTV's Ronnie Screwvala met after the ceremony and decide to call for a boycott of all such award functions. Functions such as these are serious business, according to them, and the jokes seem to crossing the limit and are getting too personal. Incidentally, all the directors mentioned above have been the butt of jokes at one time or the other at award functions. It remains to be seen whether they will be able to curb such a style of hosting or not.
