The winner of the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Motion Pictures Association of America, Michelangelo Antonioni passed away day before yesterday.
He was born in Italy in 1912. His films 'Blow up' and 'Zabriskie Point' that were released in the 60s became famous worldwide. His other notable films include 'The Adventure' and 'Red Desert.'
'Blow up' was released in 1966. A photographer takes a picture of a pair of young lovers in a park. The young lady pursues the photographer and on making blowups, the photo reveals a blurred murder image that's been caught on camera. The photographer tries to find more evidence and when he finally does, it looks like the murder did not happen. The viewer never learns whether there has been a real murder or not. The climax is brilliant.
This film won the Palm D Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 1967. His film 'Red Desert' won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival.
Comparable to famous director Fredrico Fellini, Michelangelo Antonioni was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Motion Pictures Association of America in 1995.
His passing away is a terrible loss to the film world.
