Here's some more on the recession which has supposedly gripped the globe. Out here in the Hindi film industry, it effects are being felt with big production houses like Reliance's BIG Pictures has reportedly sent out notices to all producers who have taken an advance and not yet started work on their films.
BIG Pictures wants such producers to return their money. It seems that such a notice was sent out in the last week of December, through the offices of the producers' guild, of which the production house is a member. The director who tops the list for the highest advance amount is none other Ram Gopal Verma, who has been asked to return something to the tune of 38 crores. Others who figure in the list are the likes of Ramesh Sippy, Subhash Ghai's Mukta Arts, Milan Luthria and Anubhav Sinha. Interestingly, the deal with Ramu is some two years old and the corporate house and the director had come together during the time of Sarkar Raj. Incidentally, Manmohan Shetty was at the BIG when these deals happened and now he is no more there. But he is a part of the producers' guild, in fact he is the president of it, hence his signature figures on each of the notices that have gone out to the various producers.
