This was a week which saw three films releasing at the box office, Dev D, Chal Chala Chal and Mere Khwabon Mein Jo Aaye, neither of which have really been able to draw in the crowds to the theatres.
Anurag Kashyap's Dev D was the one which had been the most aggressively promoted but it yielded returns of 20 to 30 per cent in most places. Part of the problem was also due to the fact that the movie could not be released in multiplexes for its initial shows. But the film has received a lot of critic al acclaim and word by mouth publicity as well, which affected the collections slightly, but not enough to make a substantial difference. Business is not really expected to grow during the week. As for Madhureeta Anand's Mere Khwabon Mein Jo Aaye and Rajiv Kumar's Chal Chala Chal, they could hardly manage more than five per cent collections at the box office. As for last week's releases, Zoya Akhtar's Luck By Chance had a very promising opening which rose over the weekend, only to subside during the rest of the week. It managed its best collections during the first week and now is just about staying afloat. But the fate of the Victory, which released along with Zoya's film, is really bad. The film's fate was actually sealed within days of its release. As for Vishesh Films' Raaz The Mystery Continues, the film had a very good opening in the first week and managed to keep itself going in the second week as well. Next week promises to be better with Priyadarshan's Billoo Barber hitting the screens. With Shah Rukh Khan heading the cast, albeit in a cameo, the film is being promoted very smartly and may well create a stir at the box office. The other two releases of the week are The Stoneman Murders and Juggad
