Washington, July 30 (ANI): Johnny Depp will star in a movie version of Hunter S. Thompson's The Rum Diaries.
Depp will be playing the part of the book's lead character.
The thespian will be producing the film, along with Graham King, who obtained rights to Thompson's novel for his GK Films shingle and Depp's Infinitum Nihil outfit.
Bruce Robinson will write and direct the adaptation, which is being co-produced by Film Engine.
Depp will play Paul Kemp, a freelance journalist writing for a decaying newspaper in 1950s Puerto Rico and surrounded by a horde of lost souls bent on self-destruction.
Depp formerly starred in the big screen version of Thompson's psychedelic-soaked adventures chronicled in "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas," published in 1972. (ANI)
