Last week saw the release of Shah Rukh Khan's Billu, directed by Priyadarshan, a film which is produced by the superstar and even featured him in a cameo. The Hindi remake of the Tamil Kuselan, which did miserably at the box office, Billu fortunately received a better reception at the box office.
Though much more was expected of Billu due to the presence of SRK, the film had a very average opening of 30 to 40 per cent, which picked up and touched 60 to 70 per cent by the end of the weekend. The film may not turn out to be a colossal hit but it is definitely an above average grosser. The presence of Rajnikanth, on the other hand, had been unable to lift the fortunes of Kuselan. The week also saw the release of Manish Gupta's The Stoneman Murders and Anand Kumar's Jugaad. Both films failed to click at the box office. Of last week's releases, Anurag Kashyap's Dev D is managing to keep afloat. The other two releases, Madhureeta Anand's Mere Khwabon Mein Jo Aaye and Rajeev Kumar's Chal Chala Chal failed to make a dent in the box office on the day of their release itself. Nothing much has changed since then. Next week will see the much anticipated release of Rakeysh Mehra's Delhi 6. This will be his first film after Rang De Basanti. The film stars Abhishek Bachchan in the lead along with Sonam Kapoor. Besides these two, the film also stars Waheeda Rehman, Rishi Kapoor, Supriya Pathak and Atul Kulkarni. Much is expected from this film.
