Though it is now more than thirty years when Man Mohan Desai took liberty with the beliefs and formulations of the medicine world, the films, especially made in Hindi continue to provide the cinematic interpretations about the medical problems and DELHI 6 also enforces the same. Possibly what the world is now talking that faith can indeed facilitate miraculous cures has been a distinct reality in Hindi films.

In DELHI 6 though Waheeda Rahman has suffered a heart attack, and is being carried on a rickshaw to the hospital, a stark reality in India, her ailment is cured as soon as she seeks the blessings of a cow that is on the verge of giving birth to a calf. Affirmation of the belief that cow indeed is a revered figure in the Hindi cinema and has divine powers to cure anything and everything. There was though a subtle hint to this absurdity when gobar the character played by Atul Kulkarni was pushed inside an abandoned fort to bring about a hair of the kala bunder, and Divya Dutta pulled out a bunch of hair from her mane and offered it to her to give it to the superstitious public, as they would not be able to make a distinction. JAI HO.

Just a year ago it was there in SINGH IS KINNG. Where else in the world in any recorded history can you see the blood of an individual boiling, that too in the pouch through which the transfusion of the blood is being made But not once but number of times it was seen boiling with impunity, as if one could put a pan over it and make a tea. It can happen only in Hindi films and may be some day a new facade of studies would open up on this aspect bringing innuendos of these kinds in a consolidated form in one place.

The starting point for this collection would be the epic of Man Mohan Desai, AMAR AKBAR ANTHONY. It defies the concept of medical science where blood transfusion from three different persons is being given to a single individual, and then from the lilts the song; blood is blood and not water. Besides, he is also credited with curing of blindness thanks to the blessing of Sai Baba. It was in fact this film that paved the way for glory of Sai Baba in a big way.

So miracles do happen, and as long as the hope, faith and belief are there Hindi films would continue to pay obeisance to them but also would be subtly making a humor out of them as well.
