The 100th day celebration of 'Chennai 600028' took place at Chennai 89 to a full house at the Nandambakkam commercial grounds. The function commenced with a welcome speech by SP Balasubramanian.
The VIPs who did not want their names in the invitation but promised to be there were Kamal and Rajini. Young heroes like Dhanush, Jayam Ravi and Karthi, directors KS Ravi Kumar, Dharani and Seeman as well as many prominent film personalities were present. Iswarya Dhanush sat along with her dad. The film's heroine Christina was wearing a glamorous dress and the photographers wore their fingers thin taking photos of her.
After mementoes were distributed to the film participants, it was time for toast. "When Rajini and I were young, we have played together in a team, just like in this film. Our captain was K Balachander. We have also acted in dramas. We were carefree youngsters, not knowing then what the future had for us. But the stars of this film are smarter than us.
It's a long time since I lost interest in cricket. This will be considered an unpatriotic remark. After seeing this film, my interest in cricket has come back. This will be happy news for SP Balasubramanian and Gangai Amaran, but you must seek fresh victories," said Kamal.
The superstar started talking amidst thunderous applause. What is a Rajini speech without story? He did not disappoint. "A few years back, there was a Hindi film 'Lagaan' and a producer wanted me to act in the Tamil remake. I wanted to know who was going to direct the film. He mentioned a name. I said the film would come out well only if made by a prominent director. Since all big directors were busy, we could not make the film. 'Chennai 600028' is a new kind of story and Venkat Prabhu has directed it brilliantly. Seeing his success, we can see how proud the parents are.
A 58 year old approached an astrologer and asked if he would be happy. The astrologer told the man, 'Go and get the horoscopes of your children and I will tell you if you will be happy. You will be happy only if your children are, is it not?' he asked. Even if children do not perform feats, it is alright. If they are good kids, keep their parents happy and content, it is a great service to the society," said Rajini.
At the end of the function, Kamal and Rajini took photos with the 'Chennai 600028' artistes.
