Washington, Aug 7 (ANI): Pop star Avril Lavigne can't sing ballads and sad songs in the studio if she is tipsy.

The 'Complicated' singer, who admitted that many of the songs in her latest album 'The Best Damn Thing' were recorded while she was boozy with 'Jager, limoncello, vodka, and beer', insisted that she was not drunk throughout the recording.

The 22-year-old in a new Interview magazine chat with singer Nelly Furtado insisted that she could not sing 'nice' songs until she was sober.

"I wouldn't sing a nice song, a mid-tempo (song) or a ballad drunk, because it just would not be good," Contactmusic quoted Lavigne, as saying.

The pop punk also assured that she never gets drunk before a gig because she 'sucks' and forgets words.

"I don't like to drink when I go onstage live, because I suck. I forget words," she said. (ANI)
