In the name of cleansing, the Srilankan govt has killed thousands of Tamils. Those Tamils who have taken refuge in temples have also been bombed mercilessly.
While these atrocities take place on one side, the govt also wants to show its slant on Buddhism. In this regard, it wants to make a film on 'Gautham Buddha' and have approached Indian director Shekar Kapoor.
He is famous for films 'Bandit Queen' and 'Elisabeth.' Since he is tied up with commitments, they approached Meera Nair of 'Salaam Bombay' fame. That also came to naught.
The Srilankan govt has finally made an agreement with Shyam Benegal. Some time back, Benegal had made a comment that apart from Mani Ratnam, there was no worthy Tamil film director and that after seeing one frame of a Tamil film, one can say what the rest of the film would be like.
Let's see how he directs this film on Buddha!
