Another week and another clash, and I hoped it would be tough. But now, with the official word out that the cash registers of “Cash” will start ticking only next week, the selection process became a little easier. This week, four theatres in Chennai city are all set to ignite the silver screen, two each in Tamil and English (and I am not supposed to include Shankardada Zindabad, life isn’t that easy).
Last week’s Kreedom, three-week-old Harry potter and seven-week-old Sivaji are still ruling the Chennai box-office, and the impact of this week’s release on these three movies are to be seen. After the double hit in the form of Kokki and Karuppasami Kuthagaitharar, Karan is back with Thee Nagar where he plays a college union leader. The trailers are not that promising but assure some spicy serving of masala. Will Karan hit a hat trick? The next release is the Sundar C-starrer, Veerappu, a remake of the yesteryear Malayalam blockbuster Spatikam, which starred Mohanlal. The movie’s trailer with fiery dialogues and a different looking Prakash raj, as the father of the hero, has indeed increased the expectations. Sundar C, after the successful Thalainagaram is upbeat about this project. Let’s wait and watch how this movie fares. One of the two English movies that will be screened in Chennai this week is Disney’s live action comedy “Wild Hogs”. Released 22 weeks before in the US, the movie was written off by most of the critics and received worst reviews calling it a goner. But surprisingly this movie went on to become a blockbuster. So it’s up to you to decide if it’s worth checking out or not.
Behindwood’s Pick of the Week – Live Free and Die Hard John McClane is back, the fourth movie doesn’t disappoint. The thrills, the action and the death defying stunts are sure to find patronage in India as the older Die Hard movies are a rage among the viewers. The movie is about a computer hacker trying to take over all the systems in the US with plans to control the entire country and John McClane is the only one who could stop him with the help of a local hacker Justin Long.
At times, an aging Willis appears bit tired, but he's always ready to perform any action sequence, no matter how ridiculous and unbelievable. Airborne cars flying at him or the star jumping onto the tail and wing of an out-of-control F35 jet and riding it to the ground – its just like any other day for this famous NYPD cop. If you are looking for some summer popcorn extravaganza, then Die hard 4.0 is the one for you. If you have been following Bruce Willis films closely, you can see some similarities with his earlier film Hostage. But who cares? Hop in this thrill ride and get entertained thoroughly. Final Verdict –Action at its best, go for it.
