Gandhi - My Father, amidst all the controversy, will be released this Friday.

The movie, which was premiered in Johannesburg, was attended by the former South African President Nelson Mandela and the entire South African cabinet. Nelson Mandela, so touched by the movie said: "It gives me great pleasure to declare open the world premiere of Gandhi - My Father.

I had once remarked that India gave us Barrister Gandhi and South Africa gave back 'Mahatma Gandhi' the great soul". Anil Kapoor, the famous Bollywood actor who produced the movie said that South Africa is the best place to premiere the movie, as the journey of the Mahatma began there.

The movie, directed by Feroz Khan, is based on his play Mahatma v/s Gandhi. Gandhi - My Father looks into Gandhi’s relationship with his eldest son Harilal. Darshan Jariwala plays Gandhi in the film and Harilal is played by Akshaye Khanna. The film, which also stars Bhumika Chawla, Shefali Shah and Daniel Janks will hit the screens across the world in August. Mandela is reported to have extended a special invitation to all the stars that were present at the premiere for a dinner.
