The 54th FILMFARE awards ceremony took place on 4th August at Hyderabad. As announced earlier the best movie award went to Veyyil, which was produced by director Shankar and directed by Vasanthabalan.
The best actor and actress award went to Ajith (Varalaru) and Bhavana (Chithiram Pesuthadi) respectively.
It was quite a disappointment for Ajith’s fans as he was not present to receive the award. However, fans be assured that it would reach their star safely, as it was collected by director K.S Ravi Kumar on behalf of Ajith. The best director award went to Vasanthabalan again for Veyyil. Best character actor and actress award was received by Pasupathy (E) and Saranya (Em Magan) respectively. A.R Rahman was adjudged the best music director for the movie Sillunu Oru Kadhal. The best singer award went to “Gana” Ulaganadhan for rendering the hit song “Vaala Meenu” in Chithiram Pesuthadi. Na. Muthukumaran was given the best songwriter award – once again - Veyyil.
Singer P. Susila and Tollywood actor Krishnam Raju were honoured with Lifetime Achievement award for their exemplary service in the film industry. The cinematic legendary award, this time, went to Mammootty and Chiranjeevi. Amitabh Bachchan, the chief guest, participated in the function with son Abhishek and daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai. Other stars that graced the occasion include “Paruthiveeran” Karthi, Ramya Krishnan, Tabu, Trisha, Nayantara, S.P. Balasubramaniam, and Jesudas.
