Filmmaker Pankuj Parashar has always been obsessed by the use of new technology in the medium of cinema. Now he has taken his obsession into the realms of digital art, with digital paintings a hobby he has cultivated at home with the use of high end software.This week, the maker's digital paintings are being displayed at 'Out Of The Blue' art gallery in Mumbai along with other works of well known artistes. The proceeds of the sales would be going to DEEDS public charitable trust. "I'm quite excited and anxious to see the response, as this is the first time my digital paintings have been chosen for public display," says Pankuj.

It can be recalled that the filmmaker used computer based titling methods way back in 1985 for his film 'Jalwa'. Innovative digital skills were also used for television titling in 'Karamchand' his breakthrough detective serial which was famous for its new age techniques and camera handling. Later, for the Anil Kapoor Madhuri Dixit starrer 'Rajkumar', Pankuj used computer generated virtual sets for the first time in India. It was this breakthrough that prompted BBC's 'Tomorrows World' programme to feature the filmmaker as a pioneer in 3D graphics. So adept was Pankuj in this knowledge that he was also asked by Tata Consultancy to train their tech experts in computer graphics.

Next, Pankuj plans to direct a 3D feature film, depicting the kind of worlds that his paintings reflect. "If he manages to do this, it'll be a whole new horizon of story telling through the visual arts," comments filmmaker Shekhar Kapur on his blog.
