After a long dry spell in all cinema's across India, 99 is being released across all major multiplex's like Fame, Fun, Cinemax, Inox, PVR and Big Cinema, alongside all single screens in India. The film stars Kunal Khemu, Soha Ali Khan, Boman Irani, Cyrus Broacha, Simone Singh, Mahesh Manjrekar, Amit Mistry and Vinod KhannaCommenting on their decision to release 99 during the strike producers Anupam Mittal and Aditya Shastri say, ''We had timed our release during the IPL because cricket plays an integral part to our film. Our first date was April 18th, which was then pushed to 1st May and then further pushed to 8th May. This was done because we were given to understand that the strike would be called off by 5th of May. However we cannot wait any longer. IPL gets over in a couple of weeks and our financers have already waited patiently. We owe it to them and the entire cast and crew to get this movie out in the best way possible. We think May 15th gives us that platform.''
Directed by Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK and produced by Anupam Mittal and Aditya Shastri of People Pictures, 99 promises to be an original concoction of crime, comedy and coolness.
99 is a story inspired by real events in 1999 and 2000. It is as much ''what could have been'' as it is ''what really happened.'' In other words, it is historical action. It spans a few genres, it is slick, fast-paced, realistic and, importantly, very funny.
The movie is an unpredictable and hilarious ride spread over two cities with colourful characters, unbelievable circumstances, small-time crooks, big-time conspiracies, fateful car crashes, loads of coffee, a briefcase full of money, a budding romance... and a historical controversy brewing in the background!
