The Week That Was at the Box Office

Even if it did not set the box office on fire, one at least expected the film 99 to get decent collections. But it seemed to prove all theories wrong. The starved public did not throng the theatres, multiplexes or single screens and the film failed to get a decent opening.

Starring Soha Ali Khan, Boman Irani, Kunal Khemu, Vinod Khanna and Cyrus Broacha, the film opened to collections as low as 15 per cent at the single screens and around 20 to 25 per cent at the multiplexes. The makers have failed to capitalize on current situation, resulting in such low collections for a film which could easily have done better. One of the factors which went against the film, was the lack of promotion. The week's second release Suno Na, starring Tara Sharma in the lead, also had an unheralded release. This film, however, proved to be a total dud at the box office. Coming up for release next week is the movie Detective Naani directed by debutant Romilla Mukherjee.
