Washington, Aug 10 (ANI): Although late screen beauty Audrey Hepburn was the first choice of the bosses of 'A Taste Of Honey', it seems they dropped the idea to cast her in the classic kitchen sink film drama because she was too gorgeous.
Actress Rita Tushingham, who later played the lead in the film, revealed that the studio wanted Hepburn for the role of Josephine in the film.
"The studio didn't want an unknown - they wanted, actually, Audrey Hepburn," the Daily Express quoted Tushingham, as saying.
Tushingham, who was a little-known thespian from Liverpool, England that time and made her debut with the film however felt that Hepburn was 'too stunning' to play the part.
"She was a stunningly beautiful woman but I don't think she would have been right for Jo," she said.
The character Josephine was a plain, working-class teenager who becomes pregnant by an African-American sailor.
Actress Jessica Stevenson, narrator of the documentary series British Film Forever this Saturday also felt that it was too hard to imagine 'Breakfast At Tiffany's' star, the Anglo-Dutch actress to be in the role.
"It's hard to imagine the star of Breakfast At Tiffany's up the duff from a black sailor in Salford," Stevenson said. (ANI)
