The recession continues to have its impact on films and film budgets. There have been enough films which have been put on hold due to the strains on budget. Even big filmmakers are being forced to revise their budgets. One of the directors who is facing a real problem with budgets being curtailed is JP Dutta.
After his disastrous Umrao Jaan remake starring Aishwarya and Abhishek Bachchan, the director has been working hard on his next film which is said to be a love story based on the reincarnation theme. Dutta managed quite a coup when he roped in sarod maestro Ustad Amjad Ali Khan's young sons, Ayaan and Aman Bangash to play the make leads in his film which is being backed by Big Pictures. Originally, the director has signed on the late Hrishikesh Mukherjee's twin granddaughters, models, Tupur and Tapur Chatterjee as the female leads. But that didn't work out and he went for the next best, which was signing on newcomers Alina Wadiwala of Big Boss Season 2 fame and her twin Sana, as the female leads. So far so good, one would think, but now the director is feeling the pressure from Big Pictures. According to sources, the production house wants him to cut his budget which Dutta, who is known to make lavish films, is not keen on doing so. In fact, sources suggest that the whole project may be in jeopardy if the budget issue is not solved amicably between the two parties.
