With today being World Environment day, green is the natural color of choice for the day. There are many takers for green in the industry as well. The IIFA to be held in Macau from June 11 onwards has also latched on to the green wave and will have a special green award to be given away for environment conservation.
Amitabh Bachchan, the brand ambassador of IIFA, even planted a tree in the capital to set off the proceedings. The Big B has even been approached by PETA to promote vegetarianism at the event and the actor is likely to press for vegetarian cuisine being served at IIFA. But this is not the first time that IIFA has risen to support the green cause. Last year's ceremony, which was held in Bangkok, there was a green carpet instead of the traditional red one. This year too, there will be three green carpets events at IIFA, driving in the message of global warming. Unfortunately, not many in the industry promote or work for the green cause. Of course, there are stray cases of someone like Salman Khan who often prefers to cycle to work. There have been very few films that have been made around the green cause. The Hindi film industry has yet to discover this subject. Causes like environment, global warming, etc are strangely, reserved for children's films in our country. But what about educating the adults? It is heartening to see that a film on the environment is up for release next week. It is a film called Zor Lagake Haiya, which is about the attempts of a group of children to save a tree from being cut down by builders. A vagabond played by Mithun Chakraborty supports the kids in their cause. The film which has been directed by Girish Girija Joshi has already won as many as five international awards. Let's hope it proves to be the wakeup call for all of us. Let's give the environment a thought please.
