Anthony Hopkins awarded at Locarno International Film Festival

Washington, Aug. 13 (ANI): British actor Sir Anthony Hopkins was honoured with an award for his directing and acting talents at Switzerland's Locarno International Film Festival.

The 'Silence of the Lambs' star was awarded in recognition of his direction in 'Slipstream', in which he also starred as a tormented German writer.

Frenchman Michel Piccoli and Italian Michele Venitucci shared the award for best actor, while that for best actress was bagged by Spanish star Marian Alvares.

Japanese film 'Ai No Yokan (the Rebirth)', a love story about the mother of a murderer and the father of the victim, won an award in the best film category.

According to Contactmusic, British comedy 'Death at a Funeral', with real-life couple Matthew MACfadyen and Keeley Hawes, won the public prize and French director Philippe Ramos collected the prize for best script for 'Capitaine Achab'.

Swiss actress Irene Jacob chaired the jury that picked the winners for a ceremony, which concluded Locarno's 60th international film festival. (ANI)
