Even before its release, everyone knew that K Sera Sera and Sohail Khan Production's Partner was 'inspired' by the Hollywood film Hitch, starring Will Smith. It has been a common practice in the Hindi film industry to remake Hollywood films, of course without any due credit being given or rights being purchased. However with the emergence of Hollywood Studios in India, it may no longer be so easy to copy a film and get away with it as in an attempt to set a precedent, Sony Pictures is planning legal action against the producers of Partner, on the basis of plagiarism and copyright infringement. If Sony Pictures succeeds and wins this case, there are several other films currently under production which may come under the scanner upon their release too as we all know that there are several famous filmmakers in our industry who have yet to ever come up with an original script. This could just be what our Hindi film industry needed to weed out blatant copies and inspire our filmmakers and writers to be original. Can't help but wonder why Sony Pictures waited until Partner was declared a super hit to take this action though.
