Despite rumours to the contrary, Rituparno Ghosh's magnum opus 'Draupadi' has not been shelved. The latest buzz is that the director has signed actor John Abraham to play the role of Arjun in his film, which is based on the Mahabharat.
The Rituparno-John connection would rightly have begun with 'Saheb Biwi Ghulam', to be produced by Pritish Nandy Communications, which has now been put on hold, due to the bad blood existing between Salman Khan and John. So now the director has started plans to make 'Draupadi', which will be produced by Sa Re Ga Ma. It is expected that Jaya Bachchan too will have a prominent role in the film. As for John, after working with Deepa Mehta in 'Water', he is very keen to work with award-winning directors. The actor is quite excited about his role in the film despite it being a women-oriented subject. The film is not going to be a gaudy costume drama but will instead be more on the lines of Peter Brook's Mahabharat. Its budget is expected to touch Rs 8 crores.
