And, so one more chapter comes to an end for the one man who have never stopped romancing life. Dev Anand has just moved out of his "empire" called "Anand" on Pali Hill in Bandra, a place which was a landmark as long as Dev was there and ruled from his penthouse where he sat and took decisions emperors could envy. The place will never be the same again without Dev. It just cannot be. Dev's dynamic spirit has been moving here like a modern day miracle. He has been ruling here, he has lived some of the most exciting moments here. He made the place which was a ramshackle bungalow when he took charge throb with life, sung and danced and faced every problem, every consequence, and every crisis with the dynamism which is a part of Dev's life. He changed "Anand" the bungalow into a living dynamo called Dev Anand. Dev Anand was "Anand" and "Anand" was Dev Anand. The two were like one body, one soul and one mind. Dev had the magic wand to make a bungalow pulsate and pound with life, charge it with the kind of energy which no one I know can have at his age. But, then that is why Dev is Dev, and endless journey of joy with all the efforts made by the negative powers and forces blown and thrown and gone with the wind (har fiqr ko dhuven mein udaata chalaa gaya).
Dev has now moved into a new building close to the Khar Gymkhana. He is occupying the ground floor which will be all his, done up just the way he wants it, to live life and work in solitary splendor and yet be open to the changing trends and times, trying his best to interact with life outside his own life all at 87. And Dev is making this big change even while he is busy giving his latest film "Charge Sheet" his final touches. The first thing he has done is to move his post production studio, all the most expensive equipment which made Anand Recording Studio the favourite place for directors like Karan Johar, Ashutosh Gowariker, Madhur Bhandarkar and Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Dev has already started editing his new film at the new studio which is housed in the same building where he has his own den. If he continues to be as charged as he is, we are sure he will be able to release "Charge Sheet" on his birthday on September 26 and hope he fulfill his adventurous ambition which has kept him charged for more than six months. It has been nothing but "Charge Sheet" on his mind and looking at him work gives us a feeling that he has forgotten all his achievements of the last 65 years and is concentrating only on "Charge Sheet" nothing else seems to matter to him.
Dev the actor has completed shooting all his scenes in the film and will decide to shoot again only if he feels it is necessary. The other artist of the film (most of whose names have been kept a secret like everything about the film has been kept a big secret till now) are going ahead and completing their work with no questions asked because they know there will be no answers coming from Dev.
Dev who was looking for an actor to play a true to life Home Minister found him in the most unexpected man, Amar Singh, the leader of the Samajwadi Party and according to Dev he has played his role to perfection. Dev is now on the chase to find the right actor to play the role of a Don. He had talks with Sanjay Dutt (incidentally it was Dev who made a suggestion to Sunil Dutt who was a radio announcer to try his luck as an actor) for the role of the Don. But somehow he slipped into what Amitabh Bachchan once called "the cesspool of politics" and after making all kinds of hectic efforts walked out and wiped his hands clean of politics in the wash room of Santacruz Airport. He has not yet given Dev an answer, but that doesn't stop Dev from looking for another major actor to play the don who has a major character in the film. Dev being Dev will not give up his chase till he finds his don and charge sheets him.
And as in every Dev Anand film music plays a very important part and "Charge Sheet" is no exception. Dev, the discoverer has found five new music directors to score the music of his film and will reveal their names too at the right time. He has already recorded two songs in the voice of Asha Bhosle who has been singing for his films for more than 50 years, and the other songs by the well known modern day singers like Shankar Mahadevan, Sunil Chavan and Shreya Ghoshal.
