If the film is a success, it is everyone's success. And if it's a flop, it's no one's flop. This is perhaps the sentiment shared by every actor who is a part of an ensemble star-cast affair. Especially the leads who have an equal part to play in the film.This is why one wonders that after all whose film is PAYING GUESTS?
One look at the cast of the film and you know that this Subhash Ghai production has quite a crowd building up in each of the frames. Let's talk about the film's main protagonists first - Shreyas Talpade, Ashish Chaudhary, Vatsal Sheth and Javed Jaffrey. So who is the male lead here? Frankly, other than Shreyas (who himself has yet to be position himself as a solo male lead but still has seen good success coming his way), others have primarily been seen in ensemble cast films so far and that too in roles that have ranged from miniscule to supporting. Remember HEROES (Vatsal), DHAMAAL (Ashish Chaudhary) and 8X10 TASVEER (Javed Jaffrey)?
Let's talk about the leading ladies now. Frankly, it's a mixed bag out here. Celina Jaitley's biggest success till date has been GOLMAAL RETURNS (a multi star cast affair), Neha Dhupia played a supporting role in her biggest hit SINGH IS KINNG, Sayali Bhagat is yet to taste success (and PAYING GUESTS could well be her calling card) while Riya Sen had a blink-and-you-will-miss role in last week's ZOR LAGAA KE HAIYAA.
Frankly, if PAYING GUESTS indeed turns out to be a success, none of the actors can claim to have pulled in audience on their own. Each of them would certainly reap the benefits from the film's good run at the theaters though. However, if at all this debutant director Paritossh Painter's film doesn't work at the box office, there are no reasons to worry for any of them.
After all they could well end up stating - 'Whose film is it anyways?'
