'New York' is a story of three friends starring John Abraham, Katrina Kaif and Neil Nitin Mukesh, set against the larger than life backdrop of a city often described as the centre of the world and the 9/11 event. Directed by Kabir Khan whose debut movie film 'Kabul Express' won him the National Awardt. Kabir as a director has done extensive research in terms of the characters in his film but doesn't overload his actors with information. But Katrina had a complete different perception about him. When she saw Kabir for the first time she felt that she will never be able to relate to him. Only till she reached the sets the first day of the shoot she had a different perception and realized how intelligent he was. She appreciates his understanding and the deep insight he has with regards to human nature. She understood that he knows how to relate to people.
Katrina while appreciating Kabir said, "He helped all of us find our inner self and made that connection that he wanted to come across in the movie. He did all of that with no pressure, no stress and in the most painless way. It was a wonderful experience to work with him." She was worried the first day when she came on sets thinking that this is a serious film and is completely performance oriented. While talking about her character Maya to Kabir, he used to just tell her, "Look in your inner self and that is where you will find Maya." Bingo! Maya was someone who she completely identifies herself with. Her nature, personality, the kind of joy and care free attitude Maya has in the film is just similar to what our darling Katrina is in real life. Katrina claims the role of Maya as the best role of her career
