Washington, Aug 15 (ANI): Pop singer Britney Spears and her ex-hubby Kevin Federline have sought court orders to keep their custody battle away from the eyes of the media.
An attorney for several media outlets filed papers objecting to Federline's attorney Mark Vincent Kaplan's request to seal records, which were filed by his client on August 8 seeking primary custody of his kids. However, opposing the seal of records, the attorney said that 'if public court business is conducted in private, it becomes impossible to expose corruption, incompetence, inefficiency, prejudice, and favouritism'.
The next hearing for the case is scheduled for September 15.
After the hearing, Spears' lawyer Laura Wasser said that the public interest in the case is not more important than the kids' safety.
"The public's right to know is not outweighed by Federline's right to keep his kids safe. You have got to wonder why the public interest in this case is so great," Us Magazine quoted her, as saying.
Kaplan, also emphasised on the safety of minor kids.
"Anytime you have a case with a minor child it is important that the children be protected," Kaplan said.
Kaplan added that Federline believes that spending more time with his sons will help keep them away from risks.
"Kevin is convinced that the more time he spends with the kids the more insulated they are from risk," he added.
Talking about the subpoenas of Spears' cousin Alli Sims and former bodyguard Daimon Shippen, Kaplan said that his client is seeking relevant information from all sources.
He added that it is also a strategy that the rapper is using to ensure that his kids are safe.
"Kevin is pursuing relevant information from all relevant sources...There will be others [subpoenaed] but I won't say who. There is a significant strategy in place that Kevin is going to pursue whatever he needs to do to protect his kids," he added. (ANI)
